Austria - healthy and enjoyable foods

The challenge presented by the increasing internationalisation of the food industry is not only producing safe and ethical foods, but also informing consumers about their importance of enjoyable and responsible nutrition.

 Austria continues to lead Europe in the organic agriculture sector, and the popularity of organic foods among consumers is very strong. At present, there are more than 20,000 organic farms in Austria and they work nearly 16% of all agricultural land. Bio Austria has estimated a total turnover of organic products at Mio Euro 600, 64% coming from the retail sector.
