Austrian Airlines (AUA) will increase its flights to Dubai to daily flights from the current 6 flights per week starting in October 2006. The direct service to Vienna proved to be very successful and will also be upgraded as far as the aircraft is concerned.
Instead of the currently used Boeing 737-800 aircraft, AUA will use the bigger Boeing 767s which will be able to carry more than 280 passengers in two classes.
The increased customer demand for the Vienna service is due to the fact that Austria is one of the preferred destinations of tourists from the Gulf, including the UAE. Vienna International Airport is also a major hub for Eastern Europe and an ideal transfer-airport.
Austrian Airlines started this route in summer 2004 with three flights a week, growing to the current level of six and the future level of seven fights a week. Currently Austrian and Emirates are the only two airlines operating direct flights between these two cities.
