AT&S: Full order books demand capacity upgrade
The Austrian group is the market leader in Europe and India as well as being one of the world's leading producers of printed circuit boards. It is now increasing its production capacity in China.
The buoyant global economy has led to full order books for the Austrian technology group AT&S Austria Technologie & Systemtechnik AG , which has in turn led to strong growth. In order to guarantee and increase its global competitiveness and its role as a technological trailblazer, the company is now expanding its activities in Asia.
AT&S needs to increase its capacity to keep up with the rapidly growing market. The company has acquired a 120,000m² plot in the industrial zone of Liangjiang in Chongqing, in south-western China. The start of construction of the plant has not yet been announced. Furthermore, in recent weeks the firm concluded major cooperation projects with Panasonic and another key global player from the electronics industry, which will be an ideal complement to the AT&S technology portfolio.
Founded in 1987, AT&S is now one of the largest printed circuit board manufacturers in Europe and India and also has significant interests in China. Production currently takes place at 3 sites in Austria and in India, Korea and China (Shanghai), with 1 plant each. The next expansion stage should see the opening of a third Shanghai production line in summer. The customers of AT&S include 8 of the 10 largest mobile-phone producers, the most important automotive suppliers, as well as over 500 industrial clients. A total workforce of over 5,500 generated revenue of over EUR 370 million in the last financial year, 2009/2010.
