REAL CORP 2012: “RE-MIXING THE CITY”, 14th-16th May 2012 in Schwechat, Austria

9 May 2012

"Re-Mixing the city. Towards sustainability and resilience?" is the topic of REAL CORP 2012, the 17th international conference on urban planning, regional development and the information society.

Cities are confronted with new challenges every day, whether from rapid population growth and fast-paced development or because of economic change and negative growth. Around 500 international experts from the fields of urban planning, traffic planning, information and communication technology, architecture, social sciences, environmental science, real estate, GIS, geodesy and remote sensing, multimedia technology etc. will be discussing projects and solutions to current topics related to city planning, regional development and the information society, such as:

  • Do the urban patterns and structure of our cities still meet the needs of the people in their everyday life?
  • Can “mixed cities” be more sustainable and resilient?
  • Living, working, learning, relaxing, enjoying, shopping – anything, anywhere & anytime? Time-space patterns of the 24/7 city?
  • How can traffic and utility infrastructure be maintained and adjusted to meet changing requirements?
  • How can sufficient housing be made available at acceptable conditions?
  • Is it possible to reduce social tension, secure the provision of resources and quality of life, thereby turning cities into safe “places of wellbeing”?
  • What role does urban planning play in these processes?

The conference programme will include around 200 lectures, podium discussions, excursions and evening events as well as individual workshops on the following key topics:

  • Urban, Transport & Environmental Technologies and Solutions
  • Urban Ambient Assisted Living (AAL)/intelligent urban environments
  • Resilience, Safety & Security

For the first time ever, the trade fair CORP EXPO 2012: "LIVABLE CITY" on “applied urban technologies”, will be held parallel to the REAL CORP 2012 conference in close cooperation with the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber. Exhibitors come from the fields of urban/environmental/energy/traffic technology, mobility technology and solutions, quality of life, urban planning and regional development, Urban Ambient Assisted Living (U-AAL) and related disciplines.
