Semperit becomes world number two for medical gloves

3 December 2012

Further expansion for Austrian firm as it acquires Asian competitor Latexx Partners for EUR 150 million.

Austrian company Semperit AG Holding has significantly extended its medical-gloves business with the takeover of Malaysian manufacturer Latexx Partners. This has moved Semperit up from number 4 to number 2 in the world’s largest producers of medical gloves. Latexx Partners is the world’s sixth-largest manufacturer and produces gloves for 300 customers in 80 countries with over 2,000 employees at 6 production sites.

The takeover will be especially beneficial for Semperit’s business with large medical firms in the USA who are longstanding clients of Latexx Partners. Furthermore, South-East Asia promises high growth rates thanks to the ever-improving hygiene standards. Over 50% of global demand is produced in Malaysia alone. The Austrians are therefore expecting a spike in profits, especially as Latexx Partners is the industry’s second most profitable company. Semperit aims to sell an annual 23 billion gloves worldwide by 2015. The acquisition will increase capacity from the current 12 billion gloves to around 20 billion.

The publicly listed company Semperit AG Holding is a leading international group which develops, produces and markets highly specialised products made of rubber and plastics for the medical sector and for industry. In 2011 the Semperit Group generated revenue of EUR 820 million with around 8,100 employees at 21 production sites and numerous sales offices in Europe, Asia and America.
