Sensational success for Austrian watchmakers

13 January 2013

Austrian watchmaker Habring wins this year's Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève in the "Sports Watch" category.

The Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) has been held every year since 2001 and has grown beyond the borders of Switzerland, the home of clocks and watches, to become the international “Oscars” of the world of horology. The 14 experts on the judging panel represent the crème de la crème of international trade journalists and industry insiders.

November 2012 marked the first time that an Austrian watch manufacturer not only managed to make it into the top 10 of the 7 categories, Maria and Richard Habring even succeeded in taking the top prize in the “sports watch” category for their "Habring2 - Doppel 2.0" – an exquisitely crafted double chronograph. With this, Habring2 emerged victorious among the manufacturers who are in the premier league of international watchmakers – bringing the company itself into this elite group. Habring is actually the first foreign company ever to win first place in Geneva.

The small and exclusive watch manufacture produces high-end, mechanical timepieces which are made to order in the company headquarters in Völkermarkt, Carinthia. Around 70 watches emerge from the workshop every year. Master craftsmen Maria and Richard Habring already count collectors from across the globe – the USA and Asia in particular – among their clients.
