17 June 2013

There have never been as many holidaymakers flocking to Austria as in the winter season 2012/13. The number of foreign visitors rose by 2.8%.

Winter holidays in Austria are more popular than ever before, as shown by the latest figures from Statistics Austria for the 2012/2013 winter season. Both the number of overnights (65.55 million; +1.9%) and the number of arrivals (16.73 million; +1.8%) rose to record-breaking levels.

This, the best ever result for a winter season, was driven by around 11.7 million guests from abroad (+2.8%) with a total of 50.33 million overnights. The number of Austrian visitors declined slightly (5.05 million; -0.4%).

Most of the overnights by foreign visitors in the period from November 2012 to April 2013 were generated by German visitors (+4.4%), followed by guests from the United Kingdom (+3.9%), Switzerland (+3.6%) and Belgium (+1.4%). The average stay lasted for 3.9 days.
