2013 Export Awards Series: Vega International Car Transport & Logistic Trading GmbH
Since 1994 the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber and the Austrian Federal Ministry of Economy, Family and Youth have been presenting "Export Awards" to Austrian companies for their exceptional success on international markets. This year the prize in the "Transport and Traffic" category went to Vega International Car Transport & Logistic Trading GmbH.
Founded in 1990, the logistics company has its headquarters in Salzburg and specialises in transporting commercial/utility vehicles, buses, trailers and cars. Vega International has been particularly successful in transporting new trucks, thanks to innovative solutions which have proved invaluable.
Today Vega International handles the entire transport logistics process, regardless of the number of vehicles and distance to be transported. Around 50,000 commercial vehicles are transported every year – most on their own axle with up to 800 specially trained drivers.
The fact that commercial vehicles have grown ever larger over the years has led to the use of multimodal logistics chains combined with roll-on roll-off ships and rail solutions. By using special low-floor rail wagons, it is now possible to transport massive vehicles with heights of up to 4 metres. The firm also offers other services for the commercial vehicle industry such as warehousing, refurbishing, Release Agent etc.
Vega International’s clients are primarily OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) such as MAN, Mercedes, Scania, Iveco, Volvo and Schmitz Cargobull. The company has subsidiaries and representatives in Germany, Benelux, Czech Republic, Croatia, Russia, Romania and Turkey, generating revenue of EUR 65m last year. Exports account for between 95 and 100% of turnover.
