Pianos from Austria, delighting the world for 185 years

18 November 2013

Bösendorfer ranks among the world's oldest piano manufacturers, rich in tradition and world-famous for the unmistakably inspiring sound as well as the outstanding quality of the instruments.

Austrian piano manufacturer Bösendorfer has every reason to celebrate. The company’s 185th anniversary and the production of the 50,000th piano was marked by a gala concert in Vienna’s Musikverein on 22 October 2013.

The resounding success among music-lovers across the globe is hardly a surprise. By only using top quality materials and processing them with exceptional care – to this day, most of the manufacturing process is completed by hand – every single Bösendorfer stands out. Cutting-edge, computer-controlled machinery also supports the piano manufacturing process.

From the very beginning, Bösendorfer’s goal was to produce the best instruments for pianists and musicians. Over the years the company has regularly created models for collectors and music-lovers, each of which has its own contemporary, stylish design. The 50,000th piano has also become a masterpiece. Taking its inspiration from instruments built by Bösendorfer for the 1867 World Exhibition in Paris, the “Opus 50,000” was presented at the anniversary gala concert, where visitors could enjoy its unmistakeable tone.

Bösendorfer, which has been part of the Japanese Yamaha Group since 2007, produces every instrument in Austria. The renowned piano manufacturer produces around 300 instruments a year, which has been increasing steadily.
