Austrian lighting technology for Nizwa
Another prestigious order in the Gulf States has come in for Kny Design ; the Austrians have been charged with producing the main chandelier for the mosque in Nizwa in the Sultanate of Oman. The order is worth around EUR 750,000 to this innovative, family-run Austrian company and production is set to begin in January 2014 with plans to install the lighting in autumn 2014.
In October Kny Design installed one of the five largest chandeliers in the whole world in the Al Ameen Mosque in Muscat, requiring a construction period of almost a year. The chandelier for the Al Ameen Mosque weighs over 6.5 tonnes and is decorated with 67,000 Swarovski crystals with an output of 48,000 watts – providing a challenge for the 50 employees at the family-run company founded in 1956.
The manufacturer specialises in innovative solutions in lighting design. These range from “classic chandeliers” to glass facades and illuminated sculptures made of metal. The Austrian specialist develops innovative lighting solutions for public buildings, churches, mosques and conference centres as well as casinos, ships and hotels. The company generates turnover of almost EUR 6m with exports accounting for 70%. The most important export markets are Germany, the Middle East, Russia, China and India.
