Austrian Airlines opens new route to Isfahan

Austrian Airlines launches a three-times-a-week Vienna-Isfahan service starting from September 4th. This is already the second increase in its flight offering to Iran in 2016. Austria’s national carrier has been offering its passengers an additional daily flight to Teheran since March 2016. Austrian Airlines operates now up to 17 weekly flights to Iran.

The Austrian flag carrier said in a statement that the underlying reason for its second Iran destination is a new bilateral air transport agreement between the two nations, which could be renegotiated for the first time in 30 years.

An expansion of the service to a four-times-a-week flight will be starting from summer 2017 onwards. Also the parent company of Austria Airlines, Lufthansa, has resumed flying non-stop from Munich to Tehran. Starting on July 4, the connection under flight number LH 602 began three times a week.

“Due to increasing business relations, we are expecting a significantly higher demand in the future. Additionally, Iran has also gained greater significance with culture tourists,” said Thomas Winkelmann, chief executive of Lufthansa Munich hub.
