  • AUSTRIA CONCLUDES ALBANIA-EU SAA AGREEMENT RATIFICATION PROCEDURES

    19. June 2008 After conclusion of approval cycle by both Chambers of Parliament of Austria, respectively The Lower Chamber on May 8, 2008 and the Higher Chamber on May 21, 2008, President of Austria Mr. Heinz Fischer has signed the Stabilization-Association Agreement (SAA) with Albania.

    22. May 2008 The two-day visit has been organized by the Austrian Commercial Office in Tirana in cooperation with the Vienna based Austrian Consultant Association.

  • WB encourages the development of agriculture

    1. May 2008  The threat which Albania is being subject to, as a result of the world wide crises of prices, has led to the World Bank to carry out a study which has concluded that Albania has the lowest agricultural productivity compared to not only EU countries but also to countries which are going through the same transitional period. According the WB if the surface of agricultural land goes up by 10%, than the gross agricultural productivity would go up by 5%, and this would encourage farmers to modernize the technology that they use. The problems with the agricultural production are at the present being discouraged by the legal problems that exist in Albania with the property ownerships.

    29. April 2008 Investment consists on construction of 59 new power cabins and 147 new power exits.

  • Public procurements available online 

    17. April 2008 Starting from today, all public procurements, tenders will be published on the web. The documents and the information regarding any tender will be displayed in the respective internet web page and this information is free of charge.

    Interested business companies can make their offers or submit their applications through the internet. This project is financed by the American government and aims at guaranteeing more transparence in the public procurement process, higher competition and lower costs. In addition this project has been valued by the Prime Minister, Dr. Sali Berisha and the US Ambassador in Tirana, Mr. John Withers, who consider it as very good initiative.

  • World Bank warns Albania  for another rise of prices 

    16. April 2008 The World Bank and the International Monetary Fund are predicting a slow down of economic growth in Albania, Camille Nuamah as a result of the latest global crisis. The representative of the World Bank in Albania says that the Bank is advising the Albanian government to face the new challenges which may result due to the fluctuation of financial markets, the rise of power prices and the rise of food prices.

  • Nickel added to Albanian natural resources

    9. April 2008 A recent research of the British Company “European Nickel” concluded that Albania is not rich only in oil and chrome but in nickel as well. The nickel resources in the region of Devoll reach 36 million tons with a 1.2% of pure nickel. Albania has been aware of such natural resources since communism but has exploited only a small amount of it because great investments were needed. The National Agency of Natural Resources declares that nickel is mainly found in the regions of Devoll, Pogradec, Librazhd and Kukes.

  • Austria offers Assistance to compile National Civil Registry  

    3. April 2008 General Director of Civil Status Office of Austria, Mr. Oswald Kessler, expressed yesterday his assistance to construct the software of Albanian National Register of Civil Status. He said he is ready to offer the relevant Austrian version.

  • New criterions for obtaining a tourism license

    29. March 2008 According to the recent proposals of the government for changes in the law for tourism, every individual, who wishes to exercise a tourist activity should first be issued a license, by the Minister of Tourism. The license will be issued according to the fulfillment of the respective criteria. The criteria for receiving a license will be set by the Council of Ministers. According to the proposals of the majority regarding the changes in the tourism law, everyone, who wants to be involved in tourism activities, such as building a hotel, a tourism village or a tourist resort has also to seek the approval of the Minister of Tourism after getting the approval of the respective local authorities.

  • Forests of Kukes ready to be privatized  

    22. March 2008 30 thousand hectare of forests and 11 thousand hectares of pastures will be privatized in the district of Kukes. In addition, the Directory of Forests in Kukes is discussing over the implementation of the instructions of the government and the drafting of the necessary documentation for the privatization process. The Director of this directory, Fatmir Gjana has declared to the media that the first phase of the privatization includes the passage of the forests and pastures under the property and administration of the respective communes, which would further proceed in the privatization process in accordance with the respective rules and criteria. 500 thousand hectares of forests will be privatized in the entire country and this process is expected to end within 2008.

  • Raiffeisen Bank awarded "Best Bank in Central and Eastern Europe "  

    21. March 2008 Renowned Global Finance magazine awarded the title "Best Bank in Central and Eastern Europe 2007" to Raiffeisen Zentralbank Österreich AG (RZB) together with Raiffeisen International Bank-Holding AG for the sixth time already.
    Global Finance editors selected the winners by the following decision criteria: growth in assets, profitability, strategic relationships, customer service, competitive pricing, and innovative products.
    In addition, the Network Bank in Albania, Raiffeisen Bank Sh.a, received the title "Best Bank" in the local market.

  • Albanian Power Corporation fails the tender for evaluating the assets  

    15. March 2008 For the second time the tender for finding the auditing organizations which would evaluate the financial balance sheet of the Albanian Power Corporation-KESH failed. The tender which was expected to be organized by the end of February was put off because of lacking offers. This failure of auditing the financial balance sheet for 2007 may lead to delaying the privatization process of Supplying System Operator. Government has set a new deadline for the tender which will be June 2008. The tender will be opened in April.
