Government ready to grant another 70 concessionary licenses worth ALL 375bln

3. February 2016

The Albanian government is expected to further liberalize the public sector through a wave of new concession agreements which would include delivery of public services.

There were 70 such concession agreements to be signed, with a total value of ALL 375bln, while the state budget would be relieved from a total of ALL 157bln of expenses, which are expected to be paid by citizens.

Experts from the Ministry of Finance confirm that two decades of market economy show that the state failed to provide certain services and to meet certain obligations; such as tax collection, given that Albania has the lowest regional rate of tax collection. These services are now expected to be delegated to private companies in the form of concessions.
