Parliament approves 10-year moratorium on logging

2. February 2016

The Assembly approved on Thursday the law introducing a 10-year moratorium on logging with 101 votes in favour, zero against and zero abstentions.

Assembly Speaker Ilir Meta informed the MPs before voting on the draft law that the President of Republic had already given his consent on the moratorium’s immediate entry into force. In comments over social media, Minister of Environment Lefter Koka described the passing of this piece of legislation as a historic development, adding that the next generations will thank this group of MPs for approving it.

Democratic Party (DP) Astrit Patozi took advantage from this moratorium law encouraging the Assembly to approve a wholesale moratorium on the granting of concessions.
