Austrian Parliamentarians visit Albania

The Austrian delegation was especially interested in the education, infrastructure and energy areas.

Members of the Austrian Parliament, forming the Austria-Albania Friendship Group, visited yesterday Tirana and met with high officials, including President Topi, Prime Minister Berisha and Assembly Speaker Topalli. They confirmed Austria’s full support to the integration of Albania into the EU, while Topalli told them that Albania would apply for the candidate country status in 2008 and asked for Austria’s support. The Austrian delegation was especially interested in the education, infrastructure and energy areas. Prime Minister Berisha told them about the pace of reforms, as well as about fight against corruption and organized crime.



President Topi awarded Chair of the Group, Wolfgang Grossruck, with the Gjergj Kastrioti Skenderbeu order for a special and very important contribution in the development and support of democracy in Albania. Grossruck said he is indeed a real friend of Albania, a country which he has visited 30 times over the last ten years.
