"Apprenticeship training in Austria" info film online

20 August 2013

Austria has one of the lowest rates of youth unemployment in Europe. One reason for this is the dual education system, which has a long tradition in Austria.

The dual education system combines academic study in a vocational school with practical training directly in a company. Regardless of the size of the company, apprentices receive training in a huge array of sectors – from small workshops to major international corporations.

More and more countries are incorporating Austria’s successful model into their own education strategies. The short, informative film provides an overview of apprenticeship training in Austria: a complex and efficient system in which the ministries of economics and education, companies, the Federal Economic Chamber and other social partners all play an equal role.

The film shows various people talking about apprenticeship training, offering very different viewpoints and experiences. These include the minister responsible, the president of the Federal Economic Chamber, vocational training experts and education managers from Austrian companies, right through to the trainees themselves.
