HESS TIMBER’s next Australian Project: Casey Cultural Precinct “Bunjil Place” in Victoria

20 June 2017

HESS TIMBER, part of the Austrian Hasslacher group, is a renowned manufacturer of glued laminated timber, which when used in visible areas increases the wooden construction's overall esthetic aspect.

HESS TIMBER is currently involved in the construction of “Bunjil Place” in the City of Casey in Victoria. The cultural precinct is constructed by Multiplex, and designed by FJMT architects, for the City of Casey Council.

The entertainment complex includes an 800 seat theatre, office space, a flexible exhibition and performance space, a library, art gallery and a community plaza. Central to the building’s construction will be a glulam timber grid shell constituting the main atrium of the building, as well as timber freeform roof structure. HESS TIMBER is in charge of design, production, delivery and supervising of assembly.

Advantages of glued laminated timber include its light weight. For example, it’s 20% lighter than steel beams and even 600% lighter than concrete beams. Other beneficial properties include greater fire resistance due to its provided layer of charcoal, large application variety including roofs, door and window beams, columns and rafters. Also, energy efficiency is key through the well-known insulation properties of timber.  “Bunjil Place “ is due to be completed this year.
