BMW: Ten millionth engine leaves the assembly lines in Steyr

4 August 2016

The BMW Group plant in Steyr has achieved a production record. No engine plant has ever produced so many diesel engines.

“If all these engines were strung together, it would cover the distance between Steyr and Los Angeles! This is a resounding success, which would have not been possible without the huge commitment of all our employees”, stated Plant Manager Gerald Wölfel.

All of BMW’s engines come from Steyr with a very few exceptions. The plant also manufactures three, four and six-cylinder gas engines. Their share of total annual production amounted to 28% in 2015. On balance, the BMW factory in Steyr produced 1.2 million engines, one of the best results in the company’s history.

Up until now, BMW has invested close to EUR 3.5 billion in its Upper Austrian site. A total of EUR 300 million in investments was budgeted for the latest expansion of diesel engine capacities.
