Australia is a well-travelled destination for many Europeans, amongst them many German speakers as well. They have been flocking to Australia for business or personal reasons as well as for career advancement. This has created German speaking communities in most of the bigger cities in Australia.

Clubs have been set up to stay close to the language and culture of their original home. The oldest of these clubs is the German Australian Club Tivoli in Melbourne. It was founded in 1860 and has currently got 800 members: Germans, Austrians, Suisse, Australians and others. They are private persons, artists, companies, institutions, shops, doctors, lawyers and many others.

Embassies and consulates as well as chambers of commerce enhance the diplomatic and business cooperation with Australia. Skilled personnel in the areas of Engineering, Renewable Energy, ICT and biotechnology are much sought after. Australia’s universities also offer attractive study conditions. The current government program Australia Now 2017 enhances the exchange in many different areas: science, technology, culture as well as sport. Many young people make use of the Working Holiday Visa, to get to know their dream destination Australia.

Whoever arrives in Australia is usually looking for contacts to start a new life, and if you have been here for longer you might feel the need to change jobs within Australia and also look for connections.
