Austrian lighting company officially opens new Australian plant in Sydney suburb

Zumtobel , the stock-exchange listed, conceptually innovative lighting company from the Austrian alpine state of Vorarlberg officially opened its new Australian plant in the Sydney suburb of Wetherill Park on 28 June 2007.

Combining the operational capacity of two earlier plants and occupying an area of 10,800m² (4700m² for production, 3800m² for storage and 2300m² for administration), the new plant will optimise Zumtobel’s production capacity, as well as the entire production process of Zumtobel’s highly individuated, environmentally responsible and economically efficient lighting solutions. According to Andreas Ludwig, the Chairman of the company’s Board of Directors, Zumtobel’s investment volume in the Australian plant amounts to approximately 15 million Euro (ca. AUD 24 million).

In Australia and New Zealand , the Zumtobel Light Division (comprising the brands Zumtobel and Thorn) employs around 400 personnel. More than 200 employees are stationed at the new Wetherill Park plant alone, including the management department for the Australia-New Zealand region.
