Austria is ready to host EuroSkills 2020
Vocational education and training (VET) is high up on Austria’s national agenda. For Austria, Europe's vocational skills competition EuroSkills is therefore a matter close to the heart. Chances are good that EuroSkills 2020 will be held in Graz – but so far the decision-making process is still going on. On April 20 a jury will decide which city will be hosting EuroSkills 2020: Graz, the second largest city in Austria, or Helsinki, Finland’s capital city.
Graz is not only ready to welcome Europe’s youth, but also aiming to enhance Austria’s position as a first-rate location for business, training and education at national and international level even further.
Austria has been participating in the international skills competitions for more than 50 years, thereby offering young, skilled workers the opportunity to compete with others in a professional contest – and this very successfully. In terms of international rankings, Austria is at the top of the leaderboard.
The European skills championship EuroSkills aims to improve the quality, status and attraction of vocational training in Europe. The focus will be on the competition with more than 500 talented youngsters from all over Europe showing off their skills. Side events include try-a-skill challenges, exhibitions and seminars.
This year’s EuroSkills will be held in Gothenburg (Sweden) while 2018 Budapest (Hungary) will be the venue.
