Reforestation Project in Antioquia
The State of Antioquia is offering promising Business Opportunities with a new Reforestation Project
During the ANDI 2009 Congress of Colombian Industrials, our Trade Commissioner, Mr. Franz Bachleitner, accompanied by the Austrian Ambassador in Colombia, Dr. Andreas Liebmann, had the opportunity to attend a meeting with the Governor of the Colombian State Antioquia, Luis Alfredo Ramos Botero, the Secretary of Agriculture and Rural Development, Edgar Arrubla Cano and the General Manager of "Reforestadora Industrial de Antioquia" (Industrial Reforesting Company), Luis Eduardo Alvarez Vera. They expressed their interest in Austrian investment and technology for the reforestation of the Central-Colombian State of Antioquia.
Colombia has vast extensions of land, of which 60.7 million hectares can be used for forestry. However, up to date there are only 210,000 hectares of cultivated productive forest, which makes extensive reforestation necessary. The fertile soil and extensive rainfall generate excellent growth conditions for new forests. Increasing paper industry demands for wood from Asian and Caribbean countries guarantee a very high rate of wood commercialization for the future, thus investing in this sector in Colombia represents an attractive business opportunity.
