Austria's Automotive Industry celebrates centenary  30. July 2007

 400,000 motor vehicles are produced in Austria every year. More than 35,000 Austrians are currently employed by the automotive industry and one in eight jobs is directly or indirectly dependent on the motor vehicle industry.  

The Austrian automotive industry, currently celebrating its centenary, has developed into one of the country's leading industries over the last years. The roots of the domestic automotive industry go back to the "Association of Automobile Traders", founded in 1907. In Austria today more than 400,000 high-quality vehicles are manufactured annually. The most important growth factor has been exports, which last year increased by 9% to EUR 11.2 bn. The Austrian automotive industry currently employs 35,300 people and one in eight jobs is directly or indirectly dependent on the motor vehicle industry. The automotive industry has grown by 78% since 2000.
