120 years of Woerle - a cheese dynasty the world over

It is almost impossible to imagine a refrigerated cabinet in an Austrian supermarket without cheese from Woerle. But Woerle products also enjoy exceptional success abroad - in exactly 65 countries worldwide - where they go by the name “Happy Cow”.

The family-run company Woerle from Henndorf in Salzburg has been committed to quality and tradition in both its dairies for over 120 years. 250 staff ensure a comprehensive product range, with 28,000 tonnes of cheese per year and revenues of around EUR 100 million. One factor guaranteeing the company’s success is exports to 65 countries worldwide. These exports account for 40% of sales.

Success abroad, where the products are sold under the “Happy Cow” brand, is also due to strict adherence to International Food Standards and HACCP certification. Mountain cheese and processed cheese are particular favourites abroad, while in Austria Woerle Emmental cheese is the bestseller. While the most important export markets are found in Europe, Woerle cheese is also known and loved in the Middle East, Japan, South-East Asia, North Africa and Australia.
