At Euro 2016, the top teams play on Austrian turf

21. June 2016

RICHTER RASEN are doing their bit to make sure that Euro 2016 in France is a great success – the Austrian specialists are supplying the turf for several stadiums.

RICHTER RASEN is one of Europe’s leading turf manufacturers, and more and more top footballers find themselves playing on a natural turf pitch made in Austria. The company supplied the turf for the finals of both the UEFA Champions League in Moscow in 2008 and the Champions’ League in Berlin’s Olympic Stadium in 2015, and RICHTER RASEN turf also showed its class during the 2008 and 2012 European championships in Austria (where the final was played at Vienna’s Ernst Happel Stadium) and Ukraine respectively.

With past projects like these, Richter Rasen was ideally placed to provide natural turf for Euro 2016, and the European football association UEFA commissioned the family-run firm to kit out the stadiums in Nice, Marseilles, and Lille. A total of 16 European Championship matches will be played at these venues, including a semi-final at Marseilles.

Richter Rasen’s trademarked turf (STADIUM TURF®) was specially developed for the demands of the football pitch, and the company has a 40-year track record in turf R&D, working with research institutions from all over the world.

In addition to domestic gardens, parks and playgrounds, RICHTER RASEN also fits out golf courses with pre-prepared turf. The majority of the company’s 600-hectare cultivation plots are located in Slovakia, where the silica sand soils are ideal for top quality grass cultivation. A minimum of two years are required before turf destined for a stadium pitch can be lifted.

The family firm and its 45 employees have achieved a turnover approaching EUR 4 million, with an export rate (for large orders) approaching 80 per cent.
