Austrian climate protection price 2011

Austrian climate protection price award show
25. November 2011

On the 21st of November 2011, the environment minister Niki Berlakovich and the director of the national broadcasting service (ORF) Alexander Warbetz, awarded the Austrian climate protection price to four lucky winners in Vienna.

The price is part of the klima:aktiv initiative which is deeply embedded in the Austrian federal climate strategy, consisting of measures of regulation, taxation, and subsidies. This particular price has been awarded on a yearly basis since 2008 in four main areas of interest. 300 submissions, 60.000 public votes and the high quality of the nominated projects illustrate the environmental awareness and determination of Austrians to take action for the environment.

At the award ceremony, the environment minister, Niki Berlakovich, highlighted the importance of actions over words and the need to reward those who have made a difference in their private or professional lives through their own initiative. The submitted projects this year illustrated the strong connection between the business world and environmental initiatives, the benefits for the job market through the creation of new green jobs and Austria`s path to energy self-sufficiency through the use of renewable energies.

Alexander Wrabetz emphasized the vitality of not merely broadcasting reports, but more importantly presenting a course of action to the public. The Austrian climate protection price is therefore an important tool not only to publicize effective initiatives but also to trigger the motivation and innovative spirit of individuals, businesses, public bodies and whole regions.
