Meet our team on a typical office day

Team Copenhagen © Austrian Trade

Meet our team - how about following us through a  working day? Find out how we work, what we do....

07:46 - Gertrud jump starts the "diesel engines" in our office. The printers begin their noisy work and the coffee machine is boiling. The switch board is kicked out of bed and the friendly electronical voice of the answering machine (we call her Frida) is sent to sleep for now. The day shift is about to begin.

08:04 - The first customer from Austria is calling - their construction site in Jutland has been halted. A threat of strike by the local union. One of us has to travel to Jutland in order to avoid worse and settle the conflict. Preliminary talks on the phone follow. Collective labour agreements are being studied, documentation is collected and prepared.

08:30 - First staff meeting of the day. The "bosses" talk over the latest incoming inquiries and incidents. The working day is to be scheduled and planed and all prevailing issues must be coordinated. The travel agenda of an Austrian company representative is being discussed, reactions of potential business partners are being analyzed. Eventually particular targets and objectives have to be finalized.

09:00 - The ominous "mail circle": Communication is all. The project managers discuss new assignments, confer and interchange information and trade knowledge. Only one is still asleep: Frida - our electronical voice. She dreams about Franz, who always calls her after business hours.

Johanna and Gertrud

10:56 - The keyboard smokes, the phone handsets smoulder - desk research, database inquiries... Johanna consults with Mr. Google, then trade union insiders are being contacted. Who knows what? Who is knowledgeable in this particular trade? Who is the right partner? where to find more information? Quick - the last info is spelled out, put down to paper and sent to the customer by e-mail. A short intersection by phone, a short note dropped. Meanwhile Annette tries to convince a belated payer to follow-up and pay the overdue invoices to the Austrian creditor.

12:23 Meeting with a business associate in a coffee shop. During a short "Smørrebrød" lunch the actual course of business is being discussed. We learn about a new project in Ørestad. Special tools are necessary - a clear case for fast reaction and immediate information to selected Austrian companies. Our world leading Austrian database is helping us to pinpoint them. At the same time the information is published on the web and in trade specific print bulletins.

14:17 - Mary-Ann is preparing a wine promotion. Web articles are under preparation, so is the list of Danish importers. Adresses must be reviewed, updated and listed. One mailing has already been finalized. Now we're talking "follow-up"... and still there is a press conference, which has to be prepared for the Austrian "Winzer" (wine maker).

Meanwhile Wolfgang is busy talking to the lawyer about the dispute between the union and the Austrian company. The Danish cuctomer is helping too. A "single tarif contract" is hammered out and being prepared, a press release has to be suggested. There are other things waiting on his desk - an event management plan for one, trade fair participations for Austrian companies and a fact finding mission for an Austrian cluster have to be put on track. Not to mention the publication of a new project he learned from an article in the local newsletter of the association of the machine tool industry.

16:42 - Telephone conversation with the Austrian Business Agency. A mid-size Danish software producer is looking for means of representation and market development in Middle and Central Europe. Just about right for Austria! Here lies our key competence. Fast contacts and networks are being established for him. Right after that Volker goes over an offer for an Austrian member company together with Nicole. The customer expects an answer by tomorrow at the latest.

17:09 - Time to reactivate Frida - our "over night voice" - her beauty sleep is ending now and her night shift starts. Some almost finished desk research receives a final touch-up by the staff, the two "bosses" are preparing for an evening event that starts at 19:00 sharp. It is a promotion for an Austrian region, which has been organized by our office and it will take place in the "Black Diamond". The speeches are written, the company lists with all necessary documentation have already been placed on the Trade Commissioners desk. Ready to go...!
