Wiener Wasser is also very tasteful – probably only a few are aware that the water coming from the Viennese taps actually origins from the High Alps. Every day two aquaeducts transport 380.000 kubicmetres of water (corresponds to 95% of the Viennese drinking water) down to the capital. One is 90 km and has its source in the area Rax/Schneeberg in Lower Austria , the second is 180 km long and has its sourcce in the area Hoachschwab in Styria. The two spring areas with a total of approx. 600 km2 are taken very good care of. The city of Vienna has bought particularly sensible areas to avoid pollution and erosion that might damage important natural water filters and –reservoirs.
