Soft Loan Framework Agreement between Austria and Egypt Ratified by Egyptian Parliament

The Soft Loan Framework Agreement between Austria and Egypt was ratified by the Egyptian People's Assembly on May 4, 2008. In October 2007, the agreement had been signed between the Austrian and the Egyptian government in order to offer soft loans for the duration of 2 years for a total amount of 50 million Euro for the various sectors.

In October 2007,  the agreement had been signed between the Austrian and the Egyptian government in order to offer soft loans for the duration of 2 years for a total amount of 50 million Euro for the various sectors. As integral part of this agreement, an indicative list of projects [pdf, 456.5kb]was agreed upon with projects in the field of transport, health, water & wastewater and education. The enclosed protocol [pdf, 1,785.3kb]and additional documents [pdf, 22.4kb] [pdf, 47.6kb] [pdf, 157.7kb]provide all necessary detailed information. The ratification process of this protocol by the Egyptian parliament is expected to be finalized shortly; thereafter this agreement will come into effect.

In order to discuss the implementation of the soft loan projects according to the Agreement and the preliminary project list with the Austrian and Egyptian authorities concerned, a workshop will be held on May 28 and 29, 2008 in the Nile Hilton Hotel Cairo, Arousa Room. The first day (Wednesday, 28 May) will be for Egyptian authorities only, the second day (Thursday, 29 May) will also be open for interested Egyptian private companies. Austrian participants in this workshop will be:
