There are almost no limits to transport. People and goods cross national borders and are to arrive at their destination fast, safe and unharmed. Standards allow for comparable, transnational services and facilitate import and export.
Transport is a service. Passengers, animals, works of art and all types of products travel from one place to another. Standards already ensure in management that the service is rendered in line with the freight to be transported with utmost accuracy, care and timeliness.
From A to B
Freight transport is not limited to conveying goods from A to B. Technical solutions for storing goods and correctly securing loads are standardised at the international level. Austria is the only European country that even elaborated specific rules for planning and constructing terminals for the transhipment of goods.
Intelligence through high-tech
In the transport sector, technical innovations are mainly developed by telematics. This young branch of science designs intelligent monitoring and control systems. Standards govern the related data flows and harmonise complex technical systems.
