All types of medical equipment, the packaging of drugs and the sterilisation of surgical instruments have been dealt with in standardisation for a long time. All around medical devices, standards ensure the implementation of the legal framework (just think of the EU’s Medical Devices Directive 93/42/EEC). In addition to functionalities, they focus more and more on quality.
One language for all
International and European specifications integrate well-established quality management systems into healthcare and medical technology. National requirements (ON Rules) support the systematic identification and minimisation of risks (risk management).
Practice tests in nursing
Austrian experts actively contribute to standardisation and engage in trail-blazing work in their home country. The first rules on quality management in nursing already prove well in practice. Europe will promote efforts in this field in the future.
