Vienna continues to have the best living standard in the world
Austria’s capital city, Vienna, once again tops the list of cities with the highest quality of life – for the third time in a row. This has been confirmed by the latest study by international consultants Mercer, in which they analyse and compare living standards in 221 countries. As in 2009 and 2010 Zurich takes second place. Spots 3 to 10 go to Auckland, Munich, then Düsseldorf and Vancouver sharing fifth place, Frankfurt, Geneva, and finally Copenhagen and Bern in joint ninth place. Baghdad continues to be the city with the lowest quality of life.
To produce its assessment, Mercer looks at 39 different factors: political, social, economic and environmental aspects are considered along with health, education and transport. In the category “personal safety”, which now has its own ranking, Vienna comes fifth behind Luxembourg, Bern, Helsinki and Zurich. Baghdad is also bottom of the table in this ranking.
