100 % Design - London 2011

Austrian design is being showcased for the second time at the UK’s leading contemporary design show. The 100% Design show is a hub of creative talent from the UK and around the world and is a key event for interior designers and architects in the international calendar.

Austria has a solid reputation for quality design and the 100% Design show provides the perfect platform to introduce the new generation of Austrians that are making waves with their work.

This year, in cooperation with WienProducts , Advantage Austria is bringing nine of Austria’s top designers and producers to the show which is taking place at Earls Court in London.

Traditional craftsmanship, new design
“What makes Austrian Design unique is the melting pot of traditional companies and the creative input of a young generation of designers”, explains Walter Koren, head of Advantage Austria. “Traditional craftsmanship and new design come together to form a typically Austrian type of product culture which is highly focused on quality”.

Examples of this Austrian product culture include Viennese porcelain producer,  Augarten , who are showing porcelain designs created in collaboration with Philipp Bruni, Thomas Feichtner and Marco Dessí . Bene Office Design are also presenting their latest “idea wall” by Pearson Lloyd . There are also exhibits from Woka lighting design and Wiener Silber Manufactur silverware designs. The young designers Katharina Nin and Vera Wiedermann plan to launch new products at 100% Design for the first time on the international stage.

About Austrian Design
Austrian’s design industry and craft trades were estabalished by iconic designers such as Thonet and F.A. Porsche. Just as the “star designers” Josef Hoffmann, Adolf Loos and Otto Wagner and the Vienna Workshop caused an international furore at the beginning of the last century, a new generation of designers and producers are now stepping into the spotlight. Austrian winners of prestigious prizes such as the Red Dot and iF product design awards, further highlight Austria’s reputation for quality design.

The “Austrian Design” exhibit at 100% Design is presented as part of the “go international” campaign, sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Economics, Family and Youth and the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber.
