The Chill Factore, the UK ’s largest indoor ski centre, brought the Alps to the Trafford Centre in Manchester when it opened late last year. The Chill Factore uses real snow to ensure an authentic Alpine experience and includes three interconnected snow slopes - each catering for different abilities. The slopes are served by an Austrian “Wonder Carpet” drag lift designed by the Austrian company, SunKid.
Based in the Austrian Tyrol, SunKid was the first company in the world to develop conveyor lifts for winter sports activities. In the twelve years of its existence, SunKid has installed over 1,600 conveyors in 33 countries.
After the first installations of SunKid conveyors in indoor ski halls in Holland , it quickly became clear that a special construction was required for projects of this type. This led to SunKid developing the world’s very first conveyor designed especially for use in indoor environments. So as well as lifts for outdoor winter sports areas, SunKid has also successfully installed 25 conveyors in indoor ski halls all over the world.
Winter sports are, and always have been, extremely popular in the UK. Indeed skiing is one of the British population’s favourite leisure activities and the country has a total of around 150 dry slopes. SunKid lift facilities are also installed at the following "dry" ski slopes in the United Kingdom:
Alford Dry Ski Slope, 24m
Milton Keynes Indoor Ski Dome, 51m
Milton Keynes Indoor Ski Dome, 39m
Glasgow Ski & Snowboard Centre, 27m
Norfolk Ski Club, 5 belts from 39m to 63m
