12 Austrian start-up businesses compete for financing at 1st Austrian Entrepreneur Pitching event

18. November 2014

12 Austrian start-up businesses were competing for financing from Angel investors at the 1st Austrian Entrepreneur Pitching event on October 16. The event was hosted by Advantage Austria, together with the UK Business Angels Association (UKBAA), the national Austrian Business Angels Network - i2 Business Angels - and Junge Wirtschaft (JW), an organisation dedicated to supporting young entrepreneurs in Austria.

On the evening, the audience selected three start-ups as their personal favourites. One of the winners is Blitab Technology who showcased the world’s first tablet in Braille. The company supplies an accessible, cost efficient and user-friendly device to visually impaired people. The other two winners are Zizooboats, an online boat charter service, and courseticket.com, an online marketplace for courses. All three companies are going to be listed on justinvesting – a great opportunity to attract further attention of UK investors.

On the second day of the event, the group of Austrian entrepreneurs participated in guided tours through a number of London’s most popular accelerators. Among them were Google Campus, Level39, Europe’s largest accelerator for fintech, retail and future cities applications and The Escalator, home of Europe’s Tech Stars programme. At the end of the day, the Austrians mingled with London’s start-up scene at the Silicon Drinkabout networking in event in London’s Tech city.

The event gave the start-ups a valuable insight into London’s start-up scene and opportunities in the UK. A number of participants already secured follow-up meetings with Business Angels and we are excited to see how the companies will grow in the future.

A short YouTube clip gives impressions of the evening (see link below).
