Knapp lands £2.7m Ocado deal

13. July 2007

Austrian logistics expert to streamline distribution for internet grocery retailer

Knapp UK has secured a major contract with the British online supermarket Ocado to enhance its home delivery service. The project, which is valued at around £2.7m, represents a new challenge for the Austrian logistics specialist, as Ocado prides itself on delivering a mixture of fresh and frozen food within one-hour time slots direct to the customer's kitchen.

Knapp's CEO, Eduard Wünscher, sees the deal as a great opportunity. Despite the recent boom in e-commerce, he says there are still very few successful distrubtion models, which has left many customers feeling let down by the internet shopping experience.

The deal with Ocado follows Knapp's record £18m contract from John Lewis back in January to supply a state-of-the-art distribution centre for its department store business.
