Willi Opitz Winery teams up with British celebrity chefs

23. July 2007

Austria's Willy Opitz Winery supplied the wine for an exclusive fund-raising gala dinner in aid of the Nicholls Spinal Injury Foundation on 4 July. Four of the world's leading chefs prepared a fabulous meal for guests at the £500-a-head charity event at London's Carlton Tower Hotel.

A team of celebrity chefs cooked up a dream evening on 4 July in support of the Nicholls Spinal Injury Foundation. Guests were pampered, wined and dined at the black and white themed evening at the exquisite 5-star Jumeirah Carlton Tower Hotel.

Heston Blumenthal, Chef Patron of the 3-Michelin-starred Fat Duck, talked guests through the courses from the kitchen via a TV link as they were prepared by Gary Rhodes, Mark Edwards of Nobu, Michel Roux Jr. of La Gavroche and Marcus Wareing of Petrus.

A selection of Opitz red, white and dessert wines were chosen by the chefs to complement the meal.

A busy month for Opitz Wines

July has been a hugely successful month at the Willi Opitz Winery . Celebrated wine writer Giles MacDonogh has just selected the red wine 'Opitz One' for inclusion in his forthcoming book '1001 Wines You Must Try Before You Die'. 'Opitz One' has taken the wine trade by storm as it is the first ever red dessert wine. It was created using a technique pioneered by the Burgenland-based winery.

Whilst in London, Willi Opitz and his wife Maria also paid a visit to the headquarters of McLaren to present their new 'Silver Lake' range - the official wine of the Vodafone McLaren Formula 1 team. Opitz is the only winery that is active on the Formula 1 circuit. Silver Lake wines are available to buy exclusively on the McLaren website .
