KNAPP holds prize draw to drive a Maserati Spyder Competition to promote launch of Knapp's new SPIDER concept

3. August 2007

Martyn Burchall of Bookpoint Ltd won a weekend for two in the vineyards of Austria, driving a Maserati Spyder, courtesy of KNAPP. The Austrian-owned logistics solutions provider offered the weekend break and driving experience as a prize for visitors to its stand at materials handling exhibition IMHX 2007 in London.

Mr Burchall, Operations Director for the Abingdon-based book distribution company, was the lucky winner when his business card was pulled from a jar of visitors’ cards on the last day of the exhibition at the NEC, Birmingham, back in March. He was recently presented with a framed voucher for the prize by David James, Business Development Director for KNAPP UK Ltd.

Martyn, who will be accompanied on the trip in late August by his wife, Patricia, was delighted at scooping the prize and is looking forward to testing out the power of the V8 Spyder, which has a top speed of 175mph. “I have never won a competition before,” said Martyn, “and I am so pleased to get such a fascinating prize. I had forgotten to take my new business cards to IMHX but I did find one old one in my jacket pocket, so even entering the competition had an element of luck! I do like the occasional glass of red wine, so I’m looking forward to learning about Austrian wines.”

KNAPP staged the prize draw to promote SPIDER, its brand new concept in automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS), which was demonstrated live on the KNAPP stand at IMHX. Revolutionary in design, SPIDER achieves greater performance from ASRS technology by using ‘mini’ cranes on multiple levels. This ensures exceptionally fast speeds with very high acceleration and deceleration, yet without the penalties of higher maintenance and more downtime that typically result from using larger cranes. SPIDER, which can be configured up to 24m high and with as many lateral aisles as required, also reduces power requirements and operational costs dramatically.
