Pankl acquires British motor racing component supplier

14. August 2007

The Austrian based Pankl Racing Systems AG group has acquired the British motor racing engine component supplier Weymouth Pin Manufacturing Ltd for £2m.

Dorset-based Weypin specialises in the manufacture of piston pins for race engines. The company was founded by 11 former Federal Mogul employees in 1993 in the course of the restructuring and closure of a major piston pin factory for the automotive industry. Initially the company focused on the aftermarket and tuning markets which werer considered unattractive by major automotive suppliers due to the small production runs involved. Weypin’s first motorsport industry customer was Cosworth and today the company is a key supplier to all areas of that market. Weypin employs 23 people and achieves annual revenues of £2.4m.

Wolfgang Plasser, CEO of the Pankl Group said, “The Weypin piston pin contributes the missing link between our core products, the connecting rod and the piston. Weypin has excellent state-of-the-art products, a sound market position and is therefore an ideal addition to the Pankl group. Weypin will benefit from the Pankl group infrastructure, customers will receive even better-tuned systems and hence this transaction results in a win-win situation for all parties involved.”
