Egger invests £100m in UK plant

7. September 2007

Austrian firm Egger, one of Europe's largest producers of chipboard and MDF, has invested £100m in the company's chipboard plant in Hexham, making it one of the most advanced manufacturing and finishing plants of its kind.

‘At a time when generally the only investments being made into particleboard production are being made outside of Western Europe, the magnitude of the investment signifies Egger’s commitment to the UK ,’ said Bob Livesey, Managing Director at Egger UK.

Construction began in April 2006 and by April 2007 the chipboard production lines were operating 24hrs a day. At the core of the investment programme is the new 48m long ContiRoll production line. In addition, state-of-the-art technology has been installed across the plant, together with the very latest environmental equipment. Several new buildings have been constructed and the entire site has been restructured.

The Hexham plant specialises in three main product areas — furniture-grade chipboard 'Eurospan', melamine-faced chipboard 'Eurodekor', and 'Weyroc', a collection of tongue and groove chipboard products used in the construction industry.
