Austrian furniture supplier Bene has won a sought-after commission to refurbish the Shell Centre on London ’s South Bank as part of its £75 million redevelopment.

Shell employs around 8,500 people in the UK, around 2,200 of whom are based in the 26-storey tower, which is one of the most striking buildings in the Waterloo area.

Shell Centre, situated on the South Bank of the River Thames, is the global headquarters for Shell's downstream business (oil products and chemicals). Other global Shell businesses which have a presence in Shell Centre include Aviation, Marine Products and Shell WindEnergy Ltd.

Bene London, together with sister company, B-Loose, won the £1.5 million contract to supply striking high-end furniture for the new development. Bene solutions were selected for their light and modern design — Shell wanted to create offices which reflect its global aspirations for the company.

The project, which is scheduled for completion in September 2008, involves refurbishing 24 floors. The top floor, which is home to Shell’s most senior international executives, has already been completed.

Bene PLC London reported sales of £12.5million for the first quarter of 2007-08, up 36 per cent from the same period in 2006-07. The company has now been present in the UK market for over 14 years.
