The Convention Bureau of the Vienna Tourist Board has won the Gold Award as the best convention bureau outside the UK from the international readers of British conference trade journal Meeting & Incentive Travel (M&IT).

M&IT (circulation 17,000) has readers around the world - particularly potential clients of conference destinations, including event organisers, international associations, decision makers at major companies and business agencies. “For the magazine’s readers to pick Vienna for this key award is a great boost for the Vienna Convention Bureau team, and for everyone involved in marketing the destination. And above all, winning such recognition from customers is excellent word-of-mouth advertising. Recommendations like this have an impact,” said Christian Mutschlechner, managing director of the Vienna Convention Bureau.

The Silver Award went to the Swiss Convention and Incentive Bureau, while the Hong Kong Tourism Board picked up bronze. The award ceremony was part of a gala evening in London, with patron Princess Anne in attendance. Verena Jandak, the Vienna Convention Bureau marketing manager for the UK, accepted the prize on behalf of the team from Paul Kennedy, CEO of Reed Travel Exhibitions.

Conferences, corporate meetings and incentives play an important role in Vienna's tourism industry, and account for almost 12% of all overnight stays. Outstanding conference facilities, excellent conference support services and cultural appeal help ensure that Vienna ranks among the leading destinations for international meetings.
