Parker puts Austrian reds on the map!

An Austrian red wine achieves 95 Parker Points for the first time! In David Schildknecht’s ratings of the 2007 vintage of Austrian wines for "Robert Parker's Wine Advocate", an Austrian Blaufränkisch achieved a 95-point rating.

16 Austrian wines rated “extraordinary” with top scores of 95 points +

250 Austrian wines rated “outstanding wines of exceptional complexity and character” with scores of 90-94 points

Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate is one of the most important and influential wine rating publications in the world.

Along with Robert Parker himself, a panel of top wine journalists regularly tastes and evaluates the wines of the world. For several years, David Schildknecht, has tasted Austrian wines for Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate.
For the first time, an Austrian red wine – a Blaufränkisch – has received
a 95-point rating:

For the Austrian wine ratings, which were published online at the end of February, Schildknecht travelled to Austria in Summer 2008, visiting nearly 50 wineries.

The latest figures from Statistik Austria showing the country’s performance in the UK wine market during 2008, indicate that the volume of Austrian wine sales in the UK rose a massive 41.5% last year.
