Austria is the star of the show at Ecobuild 2009

Austria had the largest country pavilion at Ecobuild 2009, the UK’s biggest showcase for sustainable construction products, with a record 22 exhibitors.

Austrian Pavilions have become a regular feature at building and energy shows in the UK. This is the second year that Austria has had a stand at Ecobuild and the number of Austrian companies exhibiting has more than doubled to 22. Austria’s strong presence at EcoBuild reflects the country’s unique expertise in sustainable building, renewable energy and modern construction methods.

The Austrian group stand featured 22 of Austria’s leading suppliers of sustainable building products, ranging from passive house technologies, (for residential and commercial buildings), windows, prefabricated buildings, solar and biomass heating, and modular timber and framework systems. Several other Austrian companies occupied joint stands with their UK partners.


The goal of a more sustainable built environment is a high priority in the UK with all three main political parties are pursuing policies designed to reduce the UK’s carbon footbrint and the government setting a target of making all new homes in England carbon neutral by 2016.

Austrian companies already have a number of completed a number of showcase projects in the UK, including a nine-storey timber tower in Hackney, the tallest all-timber residential building in Europe, and several large-scale biomass heating systems in schools and hospitals around the country.
