Liebherr wins Queen's Award for Enterprise

Liebherr Sunderland Works Ltd, in Sunderland has been awarded the Queens’ Award for Enterprise in International Trade.   

The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise are the UK’s most prestigious awards for business performance. They recognise and reward outstanding achievement by UK companies. The “International Trade” category recognises companies that have demonstrated significant growth in overseas earnings and commercial success.

The Awards are conferred each year by Her Majesty The Queen, on the advice of the Prime Minister, who is assisted by an advisory committee that includes representatives of Government, industry and commerce and the trade unions. The award winners have been announced on the birthday of Her Majesty The Queen. The formal presentation of the award to Liebherr will take place later in the year.

Liebherr Sunderland Works Ltd. was established in Sunderland twenty years ago as a manufacturing plant for all types of maritime cranes and cargo handling equipment such as ship and port cranes, offshore cranes as well as mobile harbour cranes. More than 85% of the equipment produced at the company’s Deptford works goes for foreign markets with China, Singapore and South Korea accounting for more than half of the total production volume. Overseas sales have increased by more than 40% since 2005.

Together with the parent company Liebherr-Werk Nenzing GmbH in Austria, Liebherr Container Cranes Ltd., Ireland, as well as Liebherr-MCCtec Rostock GmbH, Germany, Liebherr Sunderland Works Ltd. comprises a strategic production alliance that puts Liebherr in a position to respond rapidly to the most varied market demands and use its production capacities flexibly. These production facilities go along with a worldwide network of 26 fully owned sales offices applying a direct sales strategy.
