International Wine Challenge 2010 – 132 Medal Winners for Austria 

At the London International Wine Fair the results of the world’s most prestigious competition, the International Wine Challenge, were announced.
18 Gold medals, 33 Silver medals and 45 Bronze medals were awarded to Austrian winemakers.

The IWC awards ceremony on 7th September 2010 unveiled the 2010 Champion Trophy Winners, and Winemaker of the Year Awards.

In addition to 5 Gold medals and 4 Silver medals Hans Tschida from the Angerhof-Tschida wine estate in Illmitz, Burgenland won two trophies this year:
- the Alois Kracher Trophy for Champion Sweet wine and
- the Austrian and International Sweet Muscat trophies.
and received in addition, the double accolade of Sweet Winemaker of The Year and winner of the coveted Len Evans trophy (for consistent excellence)

Special accolades go to Gold medalists Gritsch Mauritiushof and Rabl and Trophy winners
- Heinrich Hartl Pinot Noir Reserve 2007
- Rabl Grüner Veltliner Eiswein 2007
- Schloss Halbturn Sankt Laurent 2006

Austria’s success in International Wine Competitions reflects increased exports to the UK and enhanced international recognition. Figures published by Statistik Austria show that in the last year exports to the United Kingdom have more than doubled in volume, and increased by 90% in value.
