Austrian waste treatment specialist expands into Scotland

5. May 2011

Austrian waste treatment specialist Compost Systems GmbH is enjoying rapid expansion in Scotland with a new contract to provide the technology for a new biological waste treatment plant in the Scottish Borders.

Compost Systems GmbH , an internationally active Austrian engineering firm specialising in technology for the biological treatment of waste, will be working with established UK partner New Earth Solutions Ltd . The two companies have maintained an active business relationship for many years and have worked together since 2003 to establish a number of new waste treatment plants.

Their most recent joint ventures include the opening of a new plant in Leicestershire in summer 2010 capable of processing around 100,000 tons of household rubbish a year and a new plant in Bristol with a yearly capacity of 180,000 tons which started operating on 1st April 2011 and is now the biggest plant managed by New Earth Solutions.

The new plant planned for Scotland will have capacity for 50,000 tons of household waste per year and, although one of New Earth Solution’s smaller plants, it will be the biggest biological waste treatment plant in Scotland.

Compost Systems will play an instrumental role in the construction of the new plant by providing both the design for the technology for the biological treatment of waste as well as the technological components. The Austrian engineering firm offers their customers a distinct advantage by planning each plant in detail and tailoring their service to cater for specific needs. According to Aurel Lübke, CEO at Compost Systems, “This is the only way to give customers a lasting competitive edge”.

With their special technological Austrian know-how, the waste treatment company from Wels is not only active in England and Scotland but also in Asia where they are constructing the biggest biological waste treatment plant to date. The plant is situated in Mumbai, India and from 2014 will process 4,000 tons of waste every day. From 2020 the capacity will be increased to 7,500 tons per day.
