Austrian company Umdasch receives “RLI Interior Excellence Award”

A glittering ceremony at the Natural History Museum in London on 9 June 2011 accompanied the presentation of the RLI Awards 2011. Umdasch Shop-Concept received the RLI Interior Excellence Award for its perfect realisation of the Nike “House of Football” project in South Africa. Roman Fussthaler, Managing Director of Umdasch UK, was present to receive the award personally. This was the second time since 2009 that the Amstetten-based concern, and specifically its English subsidiary, had been honoured as Shopfitter of the Year in the global sphere.

RLI (Retail & Leisure International) is a leading specialist publication in the field of shop architecture and shop design, and is distributed worldwide. With its annual award ceremony the famous magazine aims to show its recognition of the creative developments within the retail sector. The illustrious jury consists of representatives of the international retail, design and shopping centre scene. This year the prize for the best project developer went to SES (Spar European Shopping Centres). Further awards were received by Marks & Spencer (UK Retailer of the Year), The Disney Store (International Retailer of the Year), 360 Mall Kuwait (International Shopping Centre of the Year), Ferrari World Abu Dhabi (Most Innovative Retail and Leisure Concept) and the Cleopatra Mall in Cairo (Future Project Award).

A chance for 20,000 young footballers

For some years Umdasch Shop-Concept has proved to be a reliable shopfitting partner for Nike. For example, the company has recently fitted out the Nike flagship stores in London and Paris. The “House of Football” in Soweto is part of Nike’s humanitarian commitment in South Africa, which has already been in operation for 14 years. Each year 20,000 footballers are given the opportunity of developing their talents further in the training centre. At the same time an exemplary information campaign on the subject of Aids is carried out. The ultra-modern training complex includes the brandland which was fitted out by Umdasch. The challenge facing the shopfitter was to supply and install the shopfitting to the highest specifications within a very narrow time window (before the start of the Football World Cup). The brandland consists of the “Main Hall” (showroom, players’ lounge) and the “Trial Room” (shoe tests).
