Following the outbreak of the mutant bacteria E.coli in Germany in June this year, the Austrian Company SY-LAB Geraete GmbH have developed the very first test kit capable of mutant E.Coli screening and differentiation.

The Austrian company adapted the already available GeneGen ® EHEC test kit within weeks of the outbreak in Germany. Any of the known verotoxin producing enterohaemorrhagic E.coli strains are reliably detected using the new test kit. Furthermore, the selection of the genes detected with the assay meet the recommendations of the German Robert Koch Institute for the diagnostic differentiation of patients with suspicious infections.

The test kit GeneGen®-EHECplus is now used in food testing labs to reduce risk of future spreads of the highly toxic bacteria by contaminated products.

The single test can be used to test foods and fecal samples and results are available within 4 hours.
