Felix Lill wins Austrian Sports Journalism prize for third year running

The Austrian Sports Journalists Association has announced that Felix Lill has won the the Austrian Sports Journalism Award for the year 2012 in the print category.

This is now the third time in a row that Felix Lill has won the award, setting a new record in the history of the prize. 

His winning feature piece “Mit Hirn, Faust und Methode” (“With brain, fist and strategy”) was published in Austrian monthly “Wienerin” in November 2011. It tells the story of the first chessboxing fight among women that took place in London in September. Chessboxing is an emerging hybrid sport that combines, as the name tells, the skills of chess and boxing in an unusual way. The supporting article that Felix submitted for the prize was entitled “Wie ein Zigeuner zum Ungarn wird”, (“How a gipsy becomes a Hungarian”), a feature that tells the under-representation of Roma in Hungary’s football, published on 8 June in national daily “Die Presse”.
